Class description:

Marion will let you in on secrets to show how she has been treating the textiles and dyes to gain the effects in her recent work. Techniques involved are:

Burning a gocco screen, using screen print methods and then over dye layering.

Cutting stencils by hand, use of ancient stencil techniques: Learn how to make that horrible blotch into a beautiful feature, with an extra skill under your belt to add to that arsenal of little things you can do to pull your work together.

Transfer printing: Transfer old prints onto new cloth, using water heat and steam

Making gels: make gels and control the dye and colour

Colour layering: Learn how to make apainting on cloth and have it appear on 6 different layers.

You will all get time to try these new methods with your own colour combinations. Some textile assembly and collage is part of this workshop. Any other method of dyeing you are looking to strengthen during this workshop can be addressed, please advise on registration. Finally, it will be a fun day with a lot of revelation and discovery. If you have dye experience this workshop would be ideal for you.

Marion Hera-Gorr

Marion Hera-Gorr. Founder and managing partner of beautiful Silks, her background with dyeing textiles and garments is extensive.

In the 1980's Marion was busy in an industrial dye plant, dye batching large quantities of felt hoods, trims and straws for hat production in one of Australasia's largest hat manufacturers. She earned her finalist places in several national fashion awards in New Zealand.
