Workshop Sunday 1st August : Speed dyeing class 2.

You've heard of speed dating? This is speed dyeing. 2 tutors in one day. Rae and Marion enjoyed this class so much, as did our clients on the day, we are running this again! So much can be learned, with 2 tutors available. The day starts with a discussion about colour and method for 30 minutes: Rae Cummings will then step you through cotton dyeing. Marion Hera-Gorr of Beautiful Silks will demonstrate and instruct you in proven methods of yarn and fibre dyeing. We conclude as we look at results.

Marion Hera-Gorr

will present you with the problem: How do we get this to go that colour? It's a constant issue for every dyer, we show you how we do it in our workshop and then set you the task of dyeing fibres fabrics and yarns all together in one dye batch.

We will show you technique for getting brilliant hues and good colour saturation.

Marion Hera-Gorr. Managing partner of beautiful Silks, her background with dyeing is extensive, beginning her commerical dye life in a hat factory with industrial equipment, and working occasionally in the film industry doing colouration and dyeing. Marion will explain how to get that tint you want and to look for the subtle hue. We will also walk you through an instant dye process that is fabulous for textile artists when they just need to get the right thing quickly.

Beautiful Silks liquid dye range.

These dyes are liquid - they are much safer to use than powder dyes as you do not have the risk of inhalation of dye stuff.

You can dye cellulose and protein based materials, and we will guide you to know what will and won't dye.

We also provide you with video resource tuition created by our resident filmaker Hannah French, who is a recent graduate in film studies from RMIT.
